Our curriculum
When we think of the word ‘curriculum’ at Grampian, we consider it in its broadest sense – what is the children’s lived experience in school from when they arrive in the morning to when they leave at the end of the day?
The intent of the curriculum at Grampian is encapsulated by our school values – commitment, aspiration and nurture – and our school mission, ‘unlocking positive futures’.
Our curriculum is built upon six ‘pillars’ - you can find out more about these in the document at the bottom of this page.
So that children are able to make the most of every opportunity the curriculum has to offer, we have high expectations of all children. Supportive challenge through a breadth of learning experiences creates children who are brave, enthusiastic and motivated.
So that children are empowered to make the most of every opportunity their future has to offer, we broaden their understanding of what their education and employment pathways could be. Experience of meeting aspirational dreams and goals creates children who are encouraging, ambitious and proud.
So that children have the confidence to achieve and exceed, now and in the future, we nurture them emotionally, mentally and physically. In doing so, we create a school community where all children feel happy, safe and welcome.
Curriculum framework
We follow the early years framework in EYFS and the national curriculum in KS1 and KS2.
The school’s curriculum framework has been devised to ensure that knowledge and key skills in all subjects are taught in a coherent, well-planned and progressive manner. This is often through over-arching themes, which make learning meaningful for the children, and provides the opportunity to return to content and concepts over time.
